The National Scenic Visitors Center

The Strategic Plan

The National Scenic Visitors Center hired Cloud Mill, LLC to work with its board to develop a ten year strategic plan for the organization. Their goal was to build a National Center which features the largest walkable relief map of America. The challenge was to find away to build national support for an exciting, but unknown project while prototyping the technologies which would be showcased in the permanent facility. The solution we developed together is to be executed in three phases.

Phase One: Earthwalk Explorer

Earthwalk Explorer is a 40’ x 60’ travelling experience featuring a 16’ x 8’ walkable, relief map of the northeast region of the United States. For this phase, NSVC has successfully proto-typed the technology to both produce the map and projected Geoshows and Cloud Mill has developed the interpretive plan for the exhibit and narratives for the two Geoshows about the Native Trails and Petroglyphs of Pennsylvania.

This exhibit has been sponsored by the State of Pennsylvania and the County of Northampton. Over 20,000 visitors have traversed the map as it travelled to museums all over the State of Pennsylvania. It started its journey at the Davinci Science Center in the Lehigh Valley. It has been on display at the Lancaster Science Factory, the Johnstown Heritage Discovery Center, The Pocono Environmental Education Center, The ASTC Conference in Pittsburgh and the State Capital in Harrisburg, the

“With the guidance of Cloud Mill’s Amy Hollander, the NSVC has been able to define and prioritize our strategic plan, launching a unique three phase effort which will allow us to prototype our technology while building regional and national support. She has continued to help our young non-profit with her expertise in the design and interpretive content of our first traveling exhibit.  Amy delights in discovery, and has a gift for helping others enjoy that experience."
