Cloud Mill is proud to have helped to create NSVC’s Earthwalk Explorer. It is an immersive experience featuring a 3 dimensional walkable relief map of the Northeast of the United States. Animated Geoshows are projected on the map surface sharing stories of history, geography, mystery and culture! This exhibit will be touring the Northeast of the United States for the next three years!

The Monumental Divide

Conquering the Monumental Divide

A debate is raging in America over how public monuments memorialize or misrepresent the nation’s history. Should they be removed, reinterpreted, or reinvented? The presentations above and below were given in tandem at the 2018 ALHFAM Annual Conference.

The above presentation, Conquering the Monumental Divide, offers a series of exercises designed to help historical sites and museums approach their communities’ own controversial monuments. The goal of this presentation is to develop a framework of consensus which can be used to build understanding in a community rather than divide it.

The below presentation, The Walking Purchase, examines a set of specific controversial monuments through the lens of historical and multicultural perspectives, including our own cultural assumptions. The featured monuments mark the path of the Walking Purchase of 1737, a historically controversial agreement between the Penn family, the proprietors of Pennsylvania, and the Delaware Tribe of Indians.

Teaching about Immigration

A Dutch Immigration Story

The presentations above and below were given in tandem at the 2019 ALHFAM Annual Conference. They provide tools and tips for interpreters to tackle one of today's (yesterday's and tomorrow's) most challenging issue: immigration. Topics covered: How can we discuss divisive issues while avoiding partisanship? How can we engage our visitors and maintain control of the conversation? How can we encourage a reluctant audience to become advocates of historical settings? A Dutch Immigration Story (above) looks at the background of our sample character(s) and Don’t Be Afraid to Say the F@#%!$ Word (below) focuses on exercises to connect historic content to contemporary concerns.
